Re-Form Heritage are delighted to announce that Bethesda Chapel as been awarded £521,737.00 of funding by Historic England
The works planned at Bethesda Methodist Chapel are focused on the interior of the building, which had deteriorated following the chapel’s closure for worship in 1985. Extensive repairs will be made to plasterwork and timber panelling, the staircases and the east lobby, and the ceiling coving will be reinstated. The first phase of installing a heating system will also be undertaken.
The restored chapel interior will provide a more attractive, comfortable and accessible space, enabling both increased public access and greater variety of use. It will also help facilitate proposals for the building’s future use as a mixed-use space housing specialist arts educator, Pinc College, alongside exhibition and performance space and heritage interpretation.
Re-Form Heritage Chief Executive Alasdair Brooks said ‘we are delighted and grateful to have received this funding from Historic England. The funds will allow us to move forward with bringing the much-loved Cathedral of the Potteries back into community use, and we’re excited at being able to progress our work at this important Grade II*-listed building over the coming months
