Middleport On the move: bringing our fascinating factory tour to you- wherever you are

Of course everyone enjoys a real life experience, and we really love welcoming our visitors to Middleport Pottery's historic site here in the heart of the Potteries.

But we understand that this is not always possible, and with this in mind we have now developed our virtual factory tour, bringing Middleport to you! So now you can enjoy the experience of seeing the artistry and skill of Burleigh Pottery being made in the traditional hand-crafted way, wherever you are.

Middleport On The Move has been created with input from the Middleport Pottery volunteer team, who are the hosts of our 'real life' tours. One of our volunteer guides will host your tour in real-time, introducing you to Middleport's history and heritage, before guiding you on a filmic journey of the Burleigh Factory.

When you purchase a ticket you receive entry to one tour: you can watch this tour with your friends and family as long as you're all viewing from the same computer screen.

Attendees of the virtual tour will receive an exclusive 10% discount to use in the Burleigh online shop.

Many talented hands - one piece of Burleigh ware

The Middleport Pottery factory tour is unique. It offers the chance to see Burleigh pottery being made using the same traditional methods as in the 1880s.

Our virtual tour will lead you through each stage of production in sequence, showing how a lump of clay is transformed into a finished piece of pottery including the unique method of decoration, underglaze 'tissue-transfer' - the only place in the world where this technique is still being used.

As a unique addition to the virtual tour, you will also be guided around the heritage areas of the Middleport Pottery site, including our famous bottle kiln and bath house. You will also see 'Duchess', our fully restored steam engine which once powered the whole factory.

Middleport On The Move aims to bring the Middleport Pottery experience to an audience who currently can’t visit us in person. This unique virtual experience will allow us to welcome visitors to our historic site despite the current restrictions. Thinking beyond the pandemic, we hope to provide an on-going virtual experience which will make Middleport Pottery accessible to audiences who may have not previously been able to join us due to factors such as distance or access.
